How to watch BBC iPlayer in Japan

I used to use Identity Cloaker to access to TV streamings in the UK and other countries, but it became somehow slower and unstable, so I decided to look for something better, which I eventually found.

That was VPN.

VPN stands for 'virtual private network'. Sounds complicated? No worries, you don't have to understand how it works to take advantage of it. It's like having your PC (network, actually) in the UK and you connect to it first then to the UK websites so that they think you are connecting form the UK.

There are millions of VPN services out there and you can easily spend a whole day looking for the best one. But unless you have an infinite amount of free time to kill, you can just sign up some random service and see how it goes, or you can try what I use which is StreamVia (At least it's tested!)

I've done a great deal of googling before I signed up, and I can say I am quite satisfied with StreamVia. (That's why I'm recommending it after all.) The subscription fee starts from £3.99/mo, which is fairy cheap comparing to other services.

It comes with an easy-to-use program you can use to connect to the servers so that you don't have to configure everything on your own. I find this software really helpful. The quality of the connection is quite good too. They've got several servers in UK and you can choose the one that works best for you.

If you want to give it a try, go to StreamVia」 and click 'Sign UP' below the 'VPN Single' section. Choose UK and order it. That's it! (You can pay by credit card or PayPal, which is my favourite.)

But how can you configure your VPN?

This is when the little program I mentioned earlier comes in handy. You can downloads the program for the OS (Windows XP, 7, Vista, MacOS, Linux etc.) you are using.

After installing the program, you have to set your username and password. If you use Windows, it's in the OpenVPN folder in your star menu. You can simply click 'StreamVia Set Password' and enter your e-mail in the first line and your password the second line.

You run the program from the same 'OpenVPN' menu by clicking 'OpenVPN GUI'. A new icon appears in the task tray. Right-click the icon, choose the server (UK(site2) Faster is recommended) and 'Connect'.

Now you are already connected to the VPN in UK. All you have to do is go to BCC website (or Channel4's 4oD or whatever) and enjoy the streaming :) Boom, now you can watch the content!

Easy right?
